Assessment Data Collection on CSNS

Note that most of the data linked from this page require administrator or faculty privilege to access.

MFT

MFT scores can be imported from the score sheets (MS Excel files) we get from ETS.

MFT national distribution data can be obtained from ETS as PDF files. This data needs to be entered into CSNS manually. We use this data to calculate the national rankings of our students and ourselves as an institute.

Surveys

  • Surveys on the Satisfaction of the Learning Outcomes

Surveys on the satisfaction of the learning outcomes collect input from five of our constituents - students, faculty, alumni, employers, and industry partners, on how well we achieve each learning outcome.

These surveys are conducted every year.

  • Surveys on the Importance of the Learning Outcomes

Surveys on the importance of the learning outcomes collect input from five of our constituents - students, faculty, alumni, employers, and industry partners, on how important each learning outcome is. New learning outcomes may be added and old ones may be revised based on the responses of these surveys.

These surveys are conducted every 5 years.

    • Project Design Document - I think we were planning to generate a design document listing from this assignment, but I looked through some of the CS337 classes, and it seems like most students didn't submit anything for this assignment, and for those who did, there's no information about group members and such.

    • Project Documentation - same problem as in CS337. Also the assignment name is not standardized - sometimes it's called Project Documentation, sometimes it's called Project Documents.

CS490

  • Assignments
    • A1 - Theory
    • A2 - Programming
    • A3 - Algorithms
    • A4 - Systems
    • A5 - Extra

The points of each assignment need to be standardized so we can automatically translate them into some kind of ranking (e.g. 1-5). And is "A5 - Extra" going to be a standard assignments or is it just for this quarter?

Project

Each student should upload their project in a zip or gzip file, presumably including everything - source code, binaries, libraries needed, documentation, and so on, to this assignment. If the project is good, the instructor can put the word "Good" in the Notes field of the grade form so the project can get a gold star in the project listing.

Project Report

Each student should upload their project report to this assignment. The instructor needs to put the name of the project in the Notes field of the grade form so the project name can be shown in the project listing.

Project Presentation

Each student should upload their project presentation slides to this assignment. The instructor needs to put the URL to the presentation recording in the Notes field of the grade form so it can show up in the project listing.

Note that by default files uploaded to an assignments can only be viewed by the the student who uploaded them and the instructor of the class, so in order for the project report and the presentation slides on the project listing to be accessible by everybody, the files need to be made public. To make a file public, simply click the book icon  to the right of the file so that the icon turns from a closed book to an open book .
