• LA County Hall of Administration - Smart Board Project

The LA County Hall of Administration has identified a series of technological initiatives with the intention of augmenting service delivery and public accessibility within the Hall. They are in the process of installing interactive directories (digital smart boards) on the first four floors that will assist the public with find services within the building and the County at large. They have settled on using digital-assistant/narrow-AI technology to augment the user experience of the digital directories with text and/or audible responses. The digital-assistant, it will draw an optimal path to the location they need to go. They have decided to move forward with the technology and experience Amazon Alexa provides. Alongside the development of the smart board and Amazon Alexa, we have also been tasked with creating a portal for the tenants of the Hall. With these technologies at hand, the County will provide a modern, more interactive experience for their users to find the services they need.

Development of the core features of the project has begun and progressed well. A working prototype of the Map application has been created, and several interfaces have been created for the web application. In addition to the map, we have a working prototype of the requested Alexa Skill the HoA requested. More on the portal, it functions as a database management system for the HoA. We are using Microsoft SQL Server 2015 as the database. They  will use the portal to add users to departments and designate the information that is displayed on the directories. The HoA has tasked us with implementing these features for their users and tenants and are providing us with the necessary resources to complete the project. The next step of the project is meet with Industry Weapon, the smart board vendors, to gather information on how to properly integrate our applications with the default software of the smart boards.
