Summary/Abstract:
Aquila is a RESTful web application that is being built for our University's Auxiliary Services Department (UAS). UAS handles many aspects associated with CSULA's everyday functions including but not limited to food catering, book store operation, and the administration of grants and contracts. The purpose of Aquila is to digitize UAS's administration of grants and contracts Pre-Award path, which involves the entire process of a faculty member applying for a grant or a project under the representation of the university. Aquila will also digitize UAS's Post-Award path which is the process taken once a proposal has been approved. The Pre-Award path is a very complicated process due to application's having to go through many stages involving obtaining approvals from a hierarchy of authority, staying within the university's regulations, monitoring the status of a project, and modifying it.
Aquila is a process management tool for UAS. Our software will improve efficiency for UAS and the applicant. The web application allows for better workflow. Our web application will allow for UAS to manage and oversee their current projects and past projects. The entire application will be filled out online. The applicant will be able to view their past projects in an archive. In our application, we will have a form of communication built in so it is easier for the applicant and UAS analyst to communicate on forms or any questions they have regarding the proposal. Our software will replace their current process of printing and using paper documents by making the entire process digitized.
