NETWORK ANALYST

Salary Range: $4,372 - $9,401/Monthly

 

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., night and weekend coverage will be required as needed; exempt classification.

 

Essential Job Functions:  Under the direct supervisor of the manager of Network and PBX Operations, the incumbent provides the primary support for network issues related to Alcatel-Lucent Network Equipment and Cisco switches and routers, including set-up and configuration of hardware and software, disaster recovery preparation and network security.  Incumbent provides support for network issues related to the campus wireless network; ensures the availability, integrity and reliability of assigned components; provides support for network issues related to Aruba, wireless access points and controllers, network firewalls, and provides primary support for the Virtual Private Networks (VPN); installs hardware and software related to network equipment and managers configuration information; evaluates, plans, and participates with project teams to develop and implement strategies for improving and expanding network services across the campus; develops tests various configurations for network equipment optimization; develops change initiatives for hardware and software network switches and routers; participates with project teams to develop and implement strategies for changing network services; participates in change management processes for safe and effective hardware and software changes in the production network.  Incumbent also participates in ITS disaster recovery and in the ITS business continuity effort during a catastrophic event; prepares periodic backups of all business documents from personal workstation and stores the backups in a safe retrievable environment; ensures switches and routers on the network are properly secured; ensures software security patches and fixes are installed timely; develops metrics to measure network performance; works with the network team to develop network monitoring thresholds; assists with inventory management of spare network equipment; analyzes network error situations and takes appropriate corrective action; monitors overall performance and function of the campus network and uses the required network management tools to improve network performance; maintains metrics of network problems and resolutions to measure effectiveness of network systems; responds to trouble tickets and network problems in an effective and efficient manner; seeks professional development opportunities for continued learning, including attending workshops; reading journals, magazines, and websites to maintain current in network applications; exhibits a personal standard of excellence through an organized work environment and a professional disposition in all communications; and improves the quality of network services by providing leadership training and coaching of staff and student workers and intervening when necessary.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience:  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Educational Technology, Communications or other related fields and three years of experience with computer networking, routing and switching/ or seven years of relevant work experience.  Knowledge and experience in an enterprise network environment with Cisco networking devices; knowledge of VPN concentrators, firewalls and DHCP; knowledge of an enterprise network environment with wireless networking; working knowledge of various network monitoring products; security measures, strategies, tactics and systems concerning hardware and software.  Good analytical, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability respond to work well independently and in a team environment; ability to prioritize actions quickly, initiate corrective action; learn new concepts;   to multi-task in a modern, fast-paced systems development/implementation environment and handle multiple competing demands, prioritize tasks, deliver results with minimal supervision, demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.  A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.

 

Special Desired Qualifications: Experience in project planning, coordination and team facilitation; and the ability to interpret trends and forecast network situations from system data.
