The above is the headline that appeared in newspapers across greater Los Angeles today, putting Cal State LA at the center of the women’s heart health universe.  We could not have attained this well-deserved notoriety, and involved so many of our students in greater heart health awareness, without your tireless efforts to coordinate, encourage, cajole, build, display, publicize, and lead an exemplary university effort to launch our partnership with the Women’s Heart Alliance and the Clinton Foundation.  Debbie and I are especially pleased that your hard work helped put the spotlight on our Mind Matters initiative, the Student Health Advisory Committee, the Student Health Care Center, our distinguished Nursing,  Kinesiology, and Nutritional Science programs, our stellar Code-a-thon students, and on and on.  The Surgeon General was very impressed, staying well beyond his departure time to greet students and pose for pictures (in the rain!).  The Clinton and WHA leadership is so very pleased to have been here to see what it means to be LA’s public university for the public good, and to see us pushing the boundaries on all fronts.  A special thanks to Jennifer Celaya-Davis for leading the charge at so many points, and to everyone for making this such a great success.  It was an honor to be part of a great day that will resonate for months and years to come.

Please pass this on to anyone I’ve missed.

Many thanks.  Bill
