Quick question, does the final description mean that the reviewer page should be empty (except that it has the search tab) when the reviewer logs in initially ?

Not sure what you meant. In the provided code, there are already something on the Reviewer Home page like the logout button and so on. You don't need to change any of those. Just add the search function to it.
