Salary Range: $3,717-$5,576/Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Temporary 7 month appointment; may be extended; may become permanent; non-exempt position.
Essential Functions: The Graphic Designer II is one of two positions responsible for the artistic, graphic design, and user experience of collaterals and websites developed by the university. The incumbent will work with the senior Graphic Designer and the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Public Affairs towards two primary goals:
* Craft, develop and implement the user experience/look and feel of the Cal State LA website. * Generate print and multimedia materials for internal and external audiences.
The incumbent will have a significant role in the overall branding campaign to be undertaken in the coming year, and will: use both design and production elements to organize ideas visually to convey the desired impact and message to the target audience; design and create a wide range of materials including printed materials, exhibits, training sessions, television broadcasts, videos, web sites, and public information projects; and provide expertise in the development and evaluation of effective communication strategies and techniques.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university in graphic design, communications, computer science or a related field, along with three years of full time professional design and production experience. Comprehensive knowledge of graphic design, production principles, and communication theory; basic understanding of marketing and promotion concepts; working knowledge of copyright laws applicable to design work and creative properties; and superior skills in Adobe Creative Suite. Incumbent must possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft suite applications, technical background demonstrating proven understanding of hand coded HTML, XHTML, XML, as well as other development or web tools (e.g. PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Contribute, Flipbook, Constant Contact, etc.); experience with the management of information through a content management system, such as Drupal; strong understanding of universal design principles to ensure web accessibility to all. Must have the ability to: understand university level curriculum concepts and convey them graphically; consult and communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students and interpret their needs into effective visual formats; plan, coordinate, and direct graphic art communications projects; and handle multiple priorities. Demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. Fingerprints will be taken and checked by the California Department of Justice and the FBI.
Special Desired Qualifications: Advanced ability with programming languages (i.e. cgi, scripts, Javascript, RSS, Cold Fusion, page layout); knowledge of university guidelines and standards, copy editing and proofreading skills.
