In case you don't know, the university has a subscription to Safari Books Online. All the students and faculty have access to lots of online books (legally!) through this service both on and off campus.

If you are not familiar with JavaScript, check out the book Speaking JavaScript. The first chapter gives a good overview of the language syntax, and later chapters go in depth into each language component and serve as very good references.
