I wanted to know if there was a way you can be exempt from having to take ENGL 102? I've completed ENGL 101 and ENGL 103 (Composition and Critical Thinking) already at a previous college. Would this allow me to be exempt from taking ENGL 102? |

I went through the same thing.
What you need to do is get a "General Academic Petition for Undergraduate Requirements" form, fill it out (Dr. Kang, Dr. Pamula, Or Tricia Trejo should be able to help you) and get it signed by Dr. Kang, then take it to the English dept. to get signed by their chair (you probably will need to leave it with them and pick it up later). Then, if I understand the process correctly, the CS department (speak to Tricia) needs to submit it to some other administrative office on campus (whose name escapes me), which technically has final say in the accept/deny decision but conventionally rubberstamps the "recommendations" of your adviser and the dept. chair. It's all very complex for what seems to be a fairly simple, common occurrence.
edit: I just realized this was from January. Hopefully you got your question answered sooner! Last edited by Adam Berman at
