Thanks to Philip and Eric for hosting the final bot playoffs.  Let's get the final bots into the AntBots/TournamentBots folder by 9:00 this evening. It would be a good idea to disable logging in your bots.

I've attached a spreadsheet for your grade evaluations. Please put your name in B2 and grades in C5 - C15. Send it to me when you are done. (I'd wait until Eric and Philip say that they think the scores have settled down. You can ignore the Abbott bots in your evaluation. I just wanted to see how they would do. They don't take up any of the grade positions.) 

Michael said that his bot doesn't fight. It's pretty good at getting out and exploring, though. One possible way to separate A from A- is how a bot compares to Michael's bot. That's just a suggestion. You can also run your own local contests to help you decide.  The suggested comparison to Michael presumes that Michael will come in somewhere in the middle. In Eric's listing below, he is at the top. In my local runs Michael3 beat about half of the bots. (Eric, is the Michael bot really Michael3?)

There seem to be too many timeouts in games on your server.  My bots check for being close to time out and should exit before it happens. Given that they time out so often and that so many others time out perhaps it would be a good idea to increase the time limit, perhaps significantly.

okay updated eric's bot and incressed turn time from 9000 to 25000 hope that's enough and helps with time outs. My computer having a hard time with running the bots and the server it a single core with hyperthreading with only 2 gb ram that I have sitting around.

RABBOTT: I'm amazed that there were so many timeouts at 9000ms. I guess your poor computer is really overloaded.

Is it the server and computer or is it the bots though... Some time bots

time out even when I run it normal.

I just uploaded my bot to the tournament, the name is Amata.

I put the dlls in the tournament folder, not sure if them alone will be enough, or it needs the vs c++ redist to be installed.

I also deployed a server, with default settings. I can't get Dr.Abbott's (and some other) bots to work, probably because I am missing some libraries that they use. How could I fix that?

from my server testing, i do notice that if i just run 4-6 bots, those bots rarely times out.

However, if I run all of them at once, my bot will time out for sure. (YES, MY DUMMY BOT)

So, do you notice a lot of time-out issue while you run all bots at once because most of my result are just time-out. Mostly happened to my bot.

Moreover, I tested my bot without server(running by command) it doesn't time out.

Up turntime to 50000. 

 Beating Xathis in the map that my bot is good at boosted my skill score by a lot...

Since Philip's machine has only a single core, whenever it swaps over to another job (e.g., not running the game) the game itself stop. But the time used by the other task is counted against the bots. That must be one reason for so many time outs. That makes the time management code less effective. In my bots I check to see if there is less than 200 ms left, and if so throw an exception and terminate the turn. But 200 ms out of 50,000 (is that the current turn limit) is hardly visible. So I changed the check from 200 ms to 20% of the turn time.  (I hope I didn't break anything else while making this change.) That may or may not help. (I should have done that originally instead of hard-wiring the 200ms.

The revised bots (AbbottF, AbbottJ, and AbbottK) are in the TournamentBot folder. Philip, if you wouldn't mind downloading them and letting them replace the previous one's I'd appreciate it.

Young Phan here, my new bot shouldn't crash, it's in my dropbox folder.

My code had some artifact in it that made it freeze, I just updated it to not freeze, if you already updated my bot.

The ranking under http://home888.myq-see.com:2082/ shows games only through 12/2.  Is there anything
later? Based on the skill levels shown here's what the final rankings say to me.

• xathis (50.1) is way out in front.
• The bots from Philip8 (43.7) down to RichardAntBot (37.7) are fairly tightly bunched -- and fairly evenly
  spread out in that range. If we drop RichardAntBot (Richard's second bot; RichardAntBot1 did better),
  the bottom of the range is EndomaBot (38,2).
• The next highest bot is KondasBot2 (34.4)

Not including my bots there are 6 bots or bot teams in the higher group: Philip, Rivas/Monroy, Michael,
Richard, Eric, and Endoma. I'm inclined to give them A. The others will get A- as promised.

My one concern is that I want to be assured that your bots are your own, i.e., that you didn't just copy code
from another bot and submit it without understanding it. (It's ok to use ideas and even code from other bots,
but you must understand it.)

So here's what I am planning to do.

1. I'm still interested in your recommended division between A and A-.  I will wait until Friday midnight to
   hear from you regarding your recommendations about grades. Based on the preceding thoughts and
   your recommendations I will develop a final split between A and A-. (Since grades are confidential
   I am not able to announce it publicly.)
2. I will also wait until Friday to hear from you affirming that you understand all the code in your bot.
   If you do not send me that affirmation your grade will be A- even if you are in the A group. I am relying
   on your honesty.
3. Based on those communications I'll submit the course grades Saturday. (We are not meeting Saturday.)

I've enjoyed using the ant contest for this class and will probably do it again. I hope you liked it also.
