I've written a description of my experience using WebStorm, a web development IDE. You should do something like this as you explore an IDE.

I've also posted a link to a new device that looks very promising. It seems like a more subtle version of Microsoft's Kinnect. I don't know if a development version will be ready for you to use as a project this summer, but check it out.
