You can do it two ways: ssh into mars, then ssh into oscar or just pass ssh the -t like so:
ssh -t marsusername@mars.calstatela.edu ssh oscarusername@oscar.calstatela.edu |

I'm not that familiar with tunneling, but can we then access oscar from home? |

I can access Oscar directly from home just fine.
Are there any other benefits to tunneling? |

In an email that was sent out, Dr. Pamula mentioned that Oscar wasn't open to the internet. So, the tunneling is really no longer relevant. It was just a way for people who wanted to access Oscar from home before it was opened up. Tunneling though, is used a lot. A lot of companies will have a gateway computer, that will allow you to access certain networks. So it's nice to know how to do it, since it makes life easier when working in that kind of environment.
But as for the class, its no longer needed. |
