Four questions: First question, when do we stop getting priority registrations without being in MEP? Second question, if we've already registered for our classes and decide to change majors OUTSIDE of the college, do we lose our spot in the class? Third question, there aren't any requirements for having CS as a minor right? Fourth, where do we declare a minor; enrollment services?

Answer:

You will stop getting priority registration as soon as you fail to comply with the expectations as stipulated by MEP; on a quarterly basis must actively participate in advisement (i.e. department and ECST Advisement Center - ECST A-125), learning community courses (i.e., math, English, IHE courses (CS 101), and Engr 154 courses and workshops for math and physics), student organizations, at least 5 hours of community service each quarter, maintain a satisfactory grade point average, and request priority registration during the first 2 weeks of each quarter at the ECST Advisement Center – ECST A125.

If you have been issued a permit for a math or English section designated for ECST students only and you decide to change majors outside of the college, you will be asked to drop the class, and if you don’t, you will be dropped.  If you plan to change majors outside of the college make sure to inform the ECST Advisement Center as soon as possible.

There are no requirements for the CS Minor, however, you may need to take additional prerequisite courses that are not listed on the Minor should you not have certain courses in your background.  There is no preliminary paperwork for Computer Science to declare a Minor, however you should visit the advisor at least once to make sure you are taking the correct courses.  You should finish your Minor at the same time that you finish your Bachelor's degree.  (Should you finish off your Bachelor's prior to finishing the Minor, Graduation will graduate you without the Minor).  Paperwork is done at the time you apply for Graduation.  At that time, you should visit also the department where you received the Minor for them to stipulate either on paper or in GET that you have completed requirements for the Minor.

Great. May I ask what these "additional prerequisite courses that are not listed on the Minor should you not have certain courses in your background" are? Oh by the way, swapping the classes instead of dropping is fine right?

Answer:   The courses listed for the Minor may have prerequisite courses that you will need to have prior to getting into the class.  For instance, CS 242 requires Math 104B (Trigonometry), but Math 104B is not listed as part of the Minor Requirements.  It is assumed that you have this level of Math completed.  You will need to check the other courses listed for prerequisites.  It is possible that CS 242 will count as a prerequisite for other courses.  In this case, you should speak with Dr. Pamula when you decide on what 3XX level courses you decide to take.
