POSITION:                            HARDWARE TECHNICIAN
DEPARTMENT:                      Hardware / Operations

 Position Summary:

The Hardware Technician is an entry-level position which provides technical support for desktop computers, applications, and related technology in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.  In this role, you will be responsible for delivering first-level technical assistance to end-users, solve problems quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime, and be able to answer hardware-related questions with a high degree of confidence.  The Hardware Technician also has the opportunity to test and recommend new or emerging computer-related hardware and suggest technical projects may improve efficiency within the department.  This is an excellent opportunity for a quality candidate looking to start a career in the IT field.

Responsibilities:

-         Troubleshoot desktop hardware and software in a mixed platform environment (Linux, Macintosh, and Windows).

-         Deploy new workstation setups, including physical installation of computing equipment, new user account creation, and application configuration

-         Respond to end-user trouble ticket requests in a timely and professional manner

-         Perform monitor calibrations using established procedure to ensure monitors are configured within company standards

-         Modify existing infrastructure based on needs – basic networking, patchpanel and wall jack installation, equipment relocation, and retiring of old hardware

-         Participate in various technical projects such as hardware refreshes and company-wide rollouts

-         Work closely with other IT support departments to provide outstanding service to all areas of the organization

-         Other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

-         Some completed coursework in the areas of Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems, or Engineering, or 1-2 years hands-on professional experience in Help Desk or technical support

-         Basic understanding of computers at the hardware level – CPU, RAM, hard drive, graphics cards, etc. and how all of these components work together

-         Working knowledge of at least one of the following operating systems – Windows XP/Vista/7, Mac OS X 10.4 or higher, or any major Linux distribution

-         Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a team

-         Ability to multi-task, quickly shift gears, and work under minimal supervision

Desired Skills:

-         CompTIA A+ certification

-         Intermediate troubleshooting of computer hardware and root-cause analysis

-         Previous experience supporting a mid to large-sized organization (500+ users), preferably in the entertainment or post-production industry

-         Knowledge of Linux system administration

-         Working knowledge of TCP/IP, Cat 5/6 networking, and other network devices

-         Previous face-to-face customer service experience

-         Experience with creating and maintaining drive images with Ghost or Microsoft SCCM

-         Self-starter with a desire to learn and absorb anything related to the IT field
