I followed the instructions on the files to uploading the files to cs3.calstatela.edu and I'm getting a 404 error.

http://cs3.calstatela.edu:8080/cs520stu19/Wiki is my page

Also if we are going to upload a documentation file please allow .txt or .doc files for upload.

I think you confused submitting homework to CSNS with deploying your application on CS3 server.

I uploaded the files in the folders as the assignment specified to the www and www/WEB-INF/classes folders and I'm getting the 404 error

http://cs3.calstatela.edu:8080/cs520stu19/ gives a NullPointer Exception.

http://cs3.calstatela.edu:8080/cs520stu19/Wiki gives a 404 error because in your web.xml you don't have a servlet to which /Wiki is mapped to.

You need to be able to fix these kind of problems.

OK now I'm confused.  If it was as simple as copying the files to the server and preserving the folders why would I have to modify my web.xml which works on my computer for the server

The context name on the server is different from the context name on your computer. Read this or watch the lecture video.
